How should a player be judged?

Squad Vision ships Football Manager's own roles and rules. You can change every one of them, and a change reaches back to your first capture.

The whole app is yours to shape: how a player is scored, what each column is called, how the columns are grouped and who for, the order positions come in, the colours, and what counts as news. Every view shows what you want to see.

Goalkeeper basics, the base every goalkeeper role is built on, with each of these columns weighted 4, major. Change one here and all three goalkeeper roles follow.

Player roles, your way

A role is what you're judging a player for: which attributes, metrics and statistics count, and how much each one weighs. Squad depth and Player comparison rank players by the role you pick, and Player evolution follows a player's best role through his history.

  • A weight from 1 to 5: slight, minor, useful, major or defining. A column weighted 5 counts five times as much as one weighted 1.
  • One average: a role's score is one weighted average over all its columns together, so a role that weighs fourteen attributes and three statistics is mostly about attributes.
  • Football Manager's own: the shipped roles are FM's, with FM's attribute weights. Its required attributes are major here, and its nice-to-haves useful.
  • Yours to change: every shipped role can be renamed and reweighted.

Football Manager says nothing about metrics or statistics, so the weights on those are Squad Vision's judgement, and as much yours to change as the rest. A weight you've changed shows what it was, like Pass Completion Percentage here.

Roles share a base

Roles are listed in possession and out of possession, and by position within each. A position's heading is its base, like Goalkeeper basics above: what every player in that position needs, whichever role he plays.

  • Change the base: every role built on it follows.
  • Change one role: only that role changes, because it now has a weight of its own for that column.

A role lists what makes it that role first, then what it shares with every role in its position: Ball-Playing Goalkeeper adds six columns of its own to the eleven every goalkeeper shares. A base isn't a role a player can be judged for. Click a position's heading to open it.

Add your own

Give it a name, a position and a phase, and leave Copy the selected role's weights ticked to start from the role you have open, so you only change what makes yours different. The position and phase stay fixed once it's added, because its weights were chosen for that position.

Roles you add can be deleted, and their weights go with them. The shipped ones always stay, so there's always one to copy.

Every column, defined

Every column Squad Vision knows has a card, under Attributes, Metrics, Statistics or Squad view: the heading Football Manager gives it, what you want it called, how it's scored, and where it comes in the order.

  • Call it what you like: Football Manager says Yel, Squad Vision says Yellow Cards, and you can say anything else. A rename reaches every screen, past captures included. Clear it to go back.
  • Which way is better: higher, lower, or not ranked at all. A column that isn't ranked is still shown, but orders nobody.
  • Total or rate: a total where more is better is left as it is, a total where fewer is better is put per 90, and a rate is pulled toward the squad's average when little football stands behind it.
  • A scoring range: two fixed ends instead of the best in the set, so an average rating of 6 to 8 means the same in any squad.
  • The fewest events: how much a metric has to rest on before a dial ranks it. Ten as shipped.
  • Your order: the arrows move a column, and the screens list them that way.

Right-click a card to change how it's scored, or to make it Optional: a capture fails when Football Manager stops sending a Required column, and an Optional one keeps its definition and everything captured against it. Attributes need nothing set, because every one runs 1 to 20 with higher better.

When Football Manager renames a column

A new version of Football Manager can rename a heading. When a capture meets one Squad Vision doesn't recognise, it asks which column it is, and you point it at the one already in the app. The answer is kept under Column pairings, so the same heading is never asked about twice, and the figures carry on in the same column.

Remove a pairing if it was answered wrongly, and the heading is asked about again on the next capture. Figures already captured stay where they are.

Categories

Group attributes, metrics and statistics however you want to see them: add a category, rename one, put them in your order, and drag a column onto another category to move it. Two ticks on each, Outfield and Goalkeepers, say who it's for, and every screen narrows by them.

  • Your groups, everywhere: Player comparison, Player evolution, Squad comparison and every dial and chart group by your categories, in your order.
  • Outfield or goalkeepers: a keeper's Goals Against stays off an outfielder's screens, and Attacking stays off a keeper's.

Renaming a category is safe, because nothing decides anything from its name. Moving a metric to another category changes which Football Manager view it's captured from, so the next capture of either expects a different set of columns, and Settings says so.

Position order

Put positions in the order you think in. Drag the ten position groups into place, then pick whether right or left comes first for full backs, wing backs, wide midfielders and wide forwards.

The Player roles list follows it, and so does every squad list sorted by position, everywhere in the app.

Only the order changes. Nobody's position does.

Your own colours

Attribute colours sets the bands an attribute's 1 to 20 is coloured by, on every screen that shows one. Add as many bands as you like, say where each one ends, and pick any colour for it.

  • As many bands as you want: Add band splits the scale again. Four as shipped: 1 to 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 20.
  • Any colour: click a band to pick its colour from the full colour picker.

A band is about the figure, not the player: a 15 is a 15 for a striker or a keeper. Reset to defaults puts the shipped four back.

What counts as news

Decide what the Summary cards call news. Four numbers, each picked from a few steps, with a Default button to put it back.

  • Form gap: how far a month's rating has to be off his season to date to make the Form card. 0.2 as shipped.
  • Games behind it: fewer than this in the month and it's too few to call. Two as shipped.
  • Names a card lists: how many before it counts the rest. Three as shipped.
  • Figures on the move: how far his place among your players has to move with his figure. A quarter as shipped.

The Summary tab and Player evolution's Summary both read them, and a change shows the next time either is opened.

Change it any time

A capture stores only what Football Manager sent. Names, categories and scores are applied each time a figure is shown, so a change reaches back to your first capture and nothing you've captured is rewritten.

Only deleting a column loses data, and it says how many figures go with it before it does. The columns Squad Vision ships can't be deleted. To stop storing one without losing what it holds, untick Tracked.

Good to know

Settings belong to Squad Vision, not a save: one set, read by every save. A role reweighted in one save is reweighted in all of them.

A column a player has no figure for is left out of his score, not counted as zero, so a transfer target you've only captured attributes for is judged on his attributes.

Every tab can go back to how it shipped: Reset to defaults, Reset order, and a Default button beside each Summaries number.
