Plan

Who plays where?

Your plan for every position, one per season, with each player's best role worked out for you. Rank players from every squad, settle each position once you've decided, and keep track of who's on the way out.

The 26/27 board, with all ten positions settled on September's figures: one card a position, first choice at the top of each, and a banner because Bradley Barcola is first choice on both wings.

Positions and slots

Add the positions your team needs, one card each: pick a position, and a side where it has one. Then rank players in each card's slots. #1 is your first choice. Drop a player on a filled slot and everyone below moves down.

  • More than one position: a player can hold slots in as many as you like, and a purple bar by his name says so.
  • First choice in two: his #1 turns red in both cards, and a banner across the top of the board names him.
  • On every card: compare everyone in it, move the card up or down the board, or take it off.
  • On every slot: Clear takes the player out, × removes the slot, and + Add depth slot adds another.

A position goes on the board once. Pick one that's already there and the board says so: There is already a Goalkeeper on this board.

Best role, worked out

Under every name is the role he suits best at that position. It's worked out from what each role asks for more than the others there, so it tells you what kind of player he is, not just how good he is.

Most suited to switches every position on the board at once, between in possession and out of it.

Settled, and still current?

When you've made up your mind about a position, mark it settled. The card turns green and records the month of figures you decided on, such as Settled on September's figures. Green is settled, amber is in progress and red is empty, and the bar at the top of the board counts how many are settled.

Captures keep coming after you've decided. When newer ones come in, a settled card says how many, such as 2 newer captures since, so you know when it's worth another look. Reopen a position to change it.

The whole club in one plan

The squad list beside the board holds players from every squad, so a youth keeper can sit behind your first choice. Filter it by squad and by position, hide players out on loan, and drag a player onto a slot.

A player you've placed stays on the list, dimmed, so you can see at a glance who's still to place.

Sell and Loan lists

Mark players to move on without taking them out of the plan. The Sell and Loan lists sit under the board, and anyone on the Loan list is marked for loan wherever he appears: in his slots and on the squad list.

The player card

The i beside every name on the board opens his player card: his terms, his attributes judged for a role, his figures, every role at his position, and where he ranks against your squad and the league.

Where to start

On a new job, Analyse team shows what you already have before you place anyone: every position, how many of your players play it and how many only cover it, and each player scored against the others who play the same position. Pick a squad, or switch to By player.

  • The position cards: a dot for each player there, filled if it's his position and hollow if he's covering from another, and who's covering.
  • Best: the top scores at the position, and whether your best player there leads another position too.
  • 1st of 13: where he ranks among everyone at the club who plays there.
  • Each row: his squad, positions and preferred foot, then his best role in possession and out of it, each with its score.

A purple bar marks a player who plays more than one position. Here, not one of the five at Wing Back is a wing back: four cover from Full Back and one from Wide Attacking Midfielder.

Copy from last season

Copy from… starts a season's plan from an earlier one. Formation brings across the positions and how deep each one is, and leaves the slots empty, because who fills them is this season's decision. Formation + players brings the players across too.

Good to know

Each season has its own plan: pick it from Season at the top of the board. Once a later season is captured, the plan is locked, as a record of what you intended.

A youth player is measured against your first team, so his scores say whether he's ready, not whether he's good for his age.

A bigger number at one position doesn't make it his best position: each position is scored against a different group.
